From the start in Rüthen to Büren, the route is initially downhill. Then it's time to pedal hard to Bad Wünnenberg, as the route climbs steadily.

You cycle around the idyllically situated Aabachtalsperre dam, followed immediately by a steep climb to Bleiwäsche. The next section of the tour to Alme, where the source of the river of the same name is located, is downhill again. One last ascent and the tour ends in Rüthen.

Safety guidelines

A rescue point system has been installed throughout the region (Soest district, Hochsauerland district, Märkischer Kreis, Olpe district and Siegen-Wittgenstein district). Rescue points can be found on the information boards at the junctions of the Südwestfalen cycle network.

The road bike tours in the Sauerland run on roads where motorized traffic is to be expected.

Author Tip

With its natural and extensive landscape, the tour around the Aabachtalsperre is a special treat.

Public transit

There are no train stations along the route. A limited journey is possible by bus. The nearest train station to the starting point is in Lippstadt or Paderborn.
